September Monthly Book Recommendations

Grade 1-5 recommendations:


1. The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart


A peculiar ad appears in the newspapers asking for a gifted child, and dozens of kids sign up to take a series of mysterious, mind-bending tests. In the end, only 4 special children succeed, and their mission is to go on a secret mission that only the most intelligent and resourceful child can complete.


2. Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger


12-year-old Sophie Foster is secretly a Telepath. Meaning that she can hear the thoughts of everyone around her, and she has no idea why. But everything changes the day she meets a mysterious boy named Fitz, who appears out of nowhere and can also read minds. She discovers that there's a place where she does belong, and in a blink of an eye she has to leave behind everything she's ever known.


3. The Seventh Wish by Kate Messner


When Charlie Brennan goes ice fishing on her town's frozen lake, she finds what happens to be a talking fish offering her a wish in exchange for its freedom. Suddenly her world is turned upside down as her wishes go hilariously wrong. But just when she's starting to get the hang of a magical wishing fish, a family crisis with her older sister brings reality into focus. Charlie quickly learns that the real world can't always be fixed by wishes...


4. Wish by Barbara O'Connor


11-year-old Charlie Reese has been making the same wish every day since 4th grade. She has a list of all the ways there are to make a wish. But when she is sent to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina to live with family she barely knows, it seems unlikely that her wish will come true. It will take Wishbone, a skinny stray dog she meets who captures her heart, and Howard, a neighbor boy who proves to be her friend, to show her that what she thought she wants may not be what she needs.


5. Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Grade 6-8 recommendations:


1. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

2. This is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp


At 10 am the principal of Opportunity, Alabama's high school finishes her speech, welcoming all the students to a new semester. In 54 minutes, 4 students must confront their hopes and fears as they come face to face with them.


3. If I Stay by Gayle Forman


17-year-old Mia has been faced with tough choices, and she doesn't know which ones to choose. Then one February morning Mia goes for a drive with her family, and in a second everything changes. Suddenly it seems like all those choices will be gone, except for one, and it's the most important one.


4. Slated by Teri Terry

5. Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott
